The Strategy

Don't try to organize the junk. Trying to buy shelves for things you don't use is a waste of money. The goal is extraction.

Empty it out: Drag everything into the driveway.
Sort into three piles: Keep, Donate, Junk. Be ruthless. If you haven't touched it in two years, it goes in the junk pile.
Call for pickup: If your junk pile is massive, call a junk removal service to haul it away. Put the "Keep" pile back in neatly.
